In the heart of the Filipino digital gaming renaissance, one event stands out as a landmark moment that bridges generations, platforms, and cultures – the GameZone TableGame Champions Cup (GTCC) Summer Programme.
Running from April 25 to June 28, 2024, this innovative and large-scale tournament
marks a bold new era for Tongits, the timeless Filipino card game.
By integrating this beloved traditional pastime into the competitive world of digital esports, the GTCC Summer Programme redefines casual play,
combining accessible gaming, strategic competition, and a vibrant national celebration of Filipino culture.

More Than a Tournament: GTCC
The GTCC Summer Programme is not simply a tournament; it is a cultural movement and a milestone for Filipino gaming.
As the premier flagship event of the year for GameZone, it elevates Tongits from informal backyard
gatherings and family tables to brightly lit digital stages equipped with professional production,
livestreamed commentary, influencer participation, and the grandeur befitting a professional esports league.
This transformation places Tongits firmly in the spotlight as not only a cherished cultural
pastime but also as a viable, competitive sport embraced by a new generation of digital natives.
The tournament’s scale and ambition are unprecedented. With a ₱5,000,000 million grand price and a competition structure designed to accommodate tens of thousands of players nationwide,
the GTCC Summer Programme offers every Filipino – from casual hobbyists to seasoned tacticians –
a genuine pathway to fame, fortune, and national recognition.
Expanded Format for Glory: A Comprehensive Competitive Journey GTCC
The GTCC tournament structure has evolved into one of the most comprehensive and rewarding competitive formats in the country.
It is carefully designed to test skill, consistency, and mental endurance over multiple stages.
Phase 1: The Initial Ranking Stage GTCC
Participants begin by playing three 20-round games, earning points based on their performance.
This initial ranking phase is crucial, as only the top 84 players will advance to the next stage.
The format encourages players to balance aggressive tactics with strategic patience, rewarding those who can maintain focus over multiple rounds.
Phase 2: The Promotional Round
The 84 qualified players are randomly divided into 28 groups.
The top 30 players from the previous phase are seeded into the upper bracket,
while the remaining 54 enter the lower bracket.
This double-bracket system adds a layer of complexity and excitement, as players in the lower bracket must fight harder to avoid elimination.
From these brackets, only the most skilled and mentally resilient players will progress: 5 from the upper bracket and 4 from the lower bracket earn coveted spots in the semifinals.

Phase 3: The Semifinals and Finals
The semifinals feature 9 elite players competing in a grueling 60-round game, a true test of endurance, adaptability, and strategic depth.
Only the top 3 from this phase will advance to the grand finals – a high-stakes 100-round championship match that will crown the ultimate GTCC Summer Programme champion.
The winner will claim the prestigious title and the grand prize of ₱5,000,000, a sum that underscores the tournament’s significance and the professionalization of Tongits as a competitive sport.
This multi-phase, bracket-style competition transforms traditional Tongits gameplay into a thrilling, multi-day spectacle that offers every participant –
from novice to pro – a fair and exciting chance to rise through the ranks through skill, focus, and mental endurance.
