What We Miss About the GTCC: Legendary Card Battle

In the ever-evolving world of online gaming, the GameZone Tablegame Champions Cup (GTCC)

Stands as one of the most iconic and emotionally resonant tournaments ever hosted in the Philippines.

Centered around the classic Filipino card game of Tongits, GTCC didn’t just elevate competition—it built a legacy.

Months later, the memories still echo in fans’ and players’ hearts.

Today, we take a heartfelt look back at the things we truly miss about the GTCC,

The ultimate celebration of skill, resilience, and community in the card gaming world.

The Unmatched Excitement of the Summer Showdown

Something was electrifying about the way GTCC: Summer Showdown unfolded.

Held from June 24 to 28, this monumental tournament brought together 135 of the nation’s most brilliant Tongits players,

Each carrying hopes, dreams, and strategies in their arsenal.

What we miss is the buzz of anticipation in the days leading up to the event.

From group chats to livestreams, everywhere you looked, people were talking about GTCC—who would make the Top 135?

Who had the edge? The entire Filipino gaming community was united by one epic event.

The ₱10,000,000 prize pool was jaw-dropping, but it wasn’t just about the money.

It was about glory, recognition, and earning a place in GameZone history.

A Tournament GTCC Structure Built for Legends

Unlike any other, GTCC’s multi-tiered tournament format was built to bring out the best in every player.

Each phase was a different battlefield demanding adaptability, wit, and mental stamina.

  • 135 players were split into Groups A, B, and C for elimination.

  • Only 84 advanced to the promotional round.

  • The Top 9 Semifinalists were determined after a marathon 60 rounds.

  • The Finals featured 100 grueling rounds, demanding every ounce of focus and skill.

The drama, unpredictability, and shifting power dynamics made the tournament captivating to follow.

Every phase felt like a true story behind the GTCC winner in itself. What we miss is how each game wasn’t just a match—it was a saga.

The Players GTCC: Real People, Real Stories

What truly set GTCC apart were its players and their personal stories.

These weren’t just usernames and avatars—they were real individuals carrying life stories filled with struggles, dreams, and love.

Tatay Benigno: The People’s Champion

No one embodied the GTCC spirit more than Benigno De Guzman Casayuran, a 62-year-old from Candelaria, Quezon.

Despite his wife’s battle with Stage 2 breast cancer and financial hardship,

Benigno’s community rallied together to fund his journey to the tournament.

He won the ₱5,000,000 grand prize, but what we remember is the emotion in his eyes, his heartfelt words:

“Para sa pagpapa-chemotherapy ng misis ko.”

His story wasn’t just about winning cards—it was about love, sacrifice, and collective hope.

What we miss is how GTCC made us feel connected to such real and raw human moments.

Ryan Dacalos and Cesha Tupas: Champions of Everyday Dreams

1st runner-up Ryan Dacalos, 38, from Lipa City, planned to use his ₱1,000,000 winnings to build a home and support his children’s education.

2nd runner-up Cesha Tupas, 37, from Rizal, wanted to pay off debts and renovate her home.

These weren’t just players. They were parents, dreamers, and everyday heroes.

GTCC gave their dreams wings—and that’s something we deeply miss.

The Spirit of Community and Camaraderie GTCC

One of the most heartwarming aspects of GTCC was how it brought people together.

Tongits is a game deeply embedded in Filipino culture, often played among families, friends, and neighbors.

GTCC honored that tradition on a massive scale.

Whether through online cheering squads, livestream chats, or barangay watch parties,

The tournament united people from every corner of the country.

What we miss is the friendly rivalries, the claps and cheers, the digital high-fives shared across provinces.

GTCC wasn’t just a competition—it was a celebration of community.
